Shelly Beach House - Manly

2013

Manly Beach, Sydney Australia

Architect: Sam Crawford Architects

Perched on a dramatic north-facing site overlooking Shelly Beach, Cabbage Tree Bay and the Bower surf break at Manly, this home boasts breathtaking views of Long Reef and the Pacific Ocean. The design emphasises a strong connection to the garden and multiple outdoor spaces for family gatherings, with the house opening to the north to capture sunlight and ocean vistas, while providing private, sheltered areas to the south for relief from the summer nor’easters.

Sustainability is integral to this build, utilising the thermal mass of concrete and cavity brick to regulate temperatures. Double-glazed windows and doors enhance energy efficiency, complemented by a gas-fired solar-boosted hydronic heating system.

The roof sections were constructed using our Rapid Build construction system, significantly reduced on-site time and resulted in dramatic folded timber features harmonising beautifully with the landscape.
